The value of reading

I am reading a fastinating book right now.

The author was a high school dropout, gang member, thief, smoker, low self-esteem, and you get the picture. At the part of his story I am at right now, he had a accident and is paralysed from th ewaist down. His doctor says he will never walk again.

Now I know from his picture on the front cover, that he can walk now, so how did he do it? Nor only that, how did he become a Billionaire?

Keep reading… Over the course of his business career, his companies created over 10,000 jobs. In one year his take-home pay was $100 million. He negotiated ove r$3.1 billion in Wall Street transactions.

The book is Billionare Secrets to Success by Bill Bartmann.

When he was 17 years old in a drunken stupor he fell down a flight of stairs and broke his back. His doctors were adamant that he would never walk again. He felt nothing below his waist.

I won’t share his story of recovery here. Read the book. What I will share was this. The Doctors were so sure that he would never walk that when he started to move his legs, they were so negative, he almost gave up.

The world is full of people who will tell you what you cannot do, rarely will you find people who support you in what you want to do even if it is seemingly impossible.

And takes a lot of work. And determination. And possible heart ache.

Today’s lession: Be wary of whom you share your deepest dreams with. Dreamstealers are everywhere.

BUT you have the choice to listen or not…

Listen to your heart.

I was taught there is value in hanging around positive people. Reading books of the same ilk is just as important. It’s amazing how many people want to pull you down to their level - because they have lost all hope.

    Good point, Kathie.

I think to a degree as well they believe they are ‘protecting’ the dreamer. Hey, I think it is possible to deal with disappointment once in a while.

I used to set impossible goals and bang my head against a wall. I was very disappointed and had low self-esteem. Set myself up never to succeed.

Then one day I decided to set easily attainable goals. Rattled them off like nothing. Self-esteem went up. Picked more challenging goals. Made them. Confidence grew.

Now I am back to the impossible ones :^) and from a way better place.
