Most people live a stress filled life. They run from place to place and barely have time to stop and glance at the roses. often they do not even know they are under stress. It becomes “normal”.
A couple weeks ago, I helped a friend move from her old apartment to her new one. In appreciation, she booked me an hour long massage. In the past, I have been a big fan of massages and the stress relief they bring. Lately, however, I stopped.
So I was excited to be treated in that way.
I was pretty surprised by what happened. I hold my tension in my jaw, neck, and back. So when the massage began, those were the areas I wanted focused on.
If you look into the mirror and check out your eyes, you can quickly tell how stressed you are. If you see white all the way around your pupil, you are in Stage 3 stress, not good. If you can only see white under your pupil, that’s Stage 2. If your eye lids cover the top of your iris and the bottom, so you only see white to the site, well, that’s Stage 1. The stage you want to be in.
It means you are relaxed.
I was Stage 3 all the way. And I thought it was normal.
One hour later, I knew how wrong I was. The constant nagging pain in my jaw was gone. My back muscles which were a mass of knots, but now flowed with relief.
I felt like a new man.
I was reminded once more about the important of looking after your most important asset — YOU!
The day after my massage, I was playing tennis with a good friend. He was telling me about a friend of his, about 50 years old. Had cancer. Was in the hospital and it does not look good.
I thought how lucky I was to have great health. Yet I had begun to take it for granted. I wonder if perhaps you have taken your health for granted as well. We require down time.
When was the last time you took expectional care of yourself? Went to a Spa? Sat at the beach? Had a massage? Slept in?
Today, take a step to recharge your batteries. You will be surprised at how much better life becomes and believe it or not, your productivity goes way up.
