Labor Day ushered in some interesting weather here in Birmingham, Michigan, USA. It was cooler, cloudy, and not as many folks out and about. We walked to the downtown and strolled around looking at the shops so we could get some much needed exercise.
Fall is right around the corner. I’m already thinking about apple cider and sugary sweet donuts. Yum! We have a quaint cider mill a few miles away, so we’ll plan a trip or two there as soon as it opens. Leaves are already falling off some of the trees. It’s that back-to-school time of year. But, I’m thinking it’s back-to- business time. While I’m always working on some sort of thing, I feel a renewed energy for working on new projects at this time of year.
With the same enthusiasm I had as a child to get all my school gear in order for the start of the year, I enjoyed some of that this weekend by purchasing a new filing cabinet at OfficeMax. While there was nothing easy about that entire experience (yes, a relatively easy transaction turned into a 4 hour affair), it was fun all the same.
After driving home with this epitome of the organization world and hauling it up two flights of stairs to my office, I spent 3 hours reorganizing files and putting them all in their new home. It will take a few weeks to get everything ordered exactly as I need it, but it feels great all the same. I love everything to be neat and organized because when it is, I’m infinitely more productive.
What are you doing to prepare yourself as you get ready to go back-to-business? Did you buy yourself some new office supplies as you were buying school supplies for your children? Have you organized things, updated your contact management system, or thrown out old paperwork or files?
What can you do this week to make your office business ready?
