Next month is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, as those familiar with the program say. Here’s the gist:
- Sign up sometime before the end of October.
- Any time after 12:01 AM on November 1, start writing a novel FROM SCRATCH.
- Write about 1600 words a day for a total of 50,000 by midnight, November 30.
Why do this? Why not?! Do you want to write a novel? Would you like to write 50,000 words of that novel? Have you been putting it off? Would you like to have a community of writers all pushing toward the same goal? Well then, here’s the link. All you have to do is do it.
I’ve committed to two local friends that I’ll do it, and now I’m committing to whoever reads this that I’ll do it. Join the fun and write a novel! And remember:
Planning to write is not writing. Outlining, researching, talking to people about what you’re doing, none of that is writing. Writing is writing. ~E.L. Doctorow
