Four Easy Steps to Triple Your Online Income This Year

Everyone talks about wanting to find a way to increase their income every year, “I gotta make more money.  I can’t make ends meet.”  Lots of problems and everyone just kind of wants to figure out how to do it.  In the last few months, I have discovered four easy steps to tripling your income this year.

I will let you know at the end of the year because I am doing this in mid-September whether I only tripled it or if I quadrupled it because if I get a few more months like the last couple of months, it is going to be unbelievable and I never would have dreamt it, all because of one secret and I am going to show you the four easy steps to achieve that outcome.

What is the secret to tripling your income?

Well, if you are like most of us, you sit at a computer all day, you work on your web design, on your web hosting, on your internet marketing, on writing articles, sending out press releases, figuring out your Google AdSense.  What is your ranking in the search engines, what is your new product going to be, how am I going to launch that product?

You are there in the basement, huddled in a corner all by yourself and that is not the way to do it.  You certainly have to spend some time doing that particularly at the beginning; however, if you want to triple your income in the coming 12 months, you got to get out of that little cubicle, you got to get out of that little corner of your basement, you got to get out of that little home office because although we get online thinking, “Wow!  It’s a global market place.  We can sell to the whole world.”

The fact of the matter is big money has always been made belly to belly.  Those of us who have thought of the Internet as a way to hide from getting belly to belly with fellow human beings, I have some bad news for you.  If you want to triple your income in the next 12 months, you are going to have to stop hiding behind your computer screen.  So, here are the four easy steps:

Step 1:    Well, decide on the seminar.  You got to get out to a seminar.  You got to get out to a conference.  You got to spend some time with the people that are around you in the same business that you are in because they are not necessarily competitors.

There is a new term in town, you may have heard of it.  It is called coopertition or it is cooperating with people that you might think as your competition.  So, decide on a seminar and there are a lot of good ones.  There is the Big Seminar.

There are Internet marketing boot camps.  My favorite, of course, is Mike Filsaime’s and Paulie Sabol’s The Internet Marketing Main Event.  I recently attended the second one that they ever did.  So, step 1, decide on a seminar.

Step 2:    Book your tickets.  Buy the ticket.  Buy the airplane ticket.  Book the hotel room.  If you do not stay in the same hotel as the conference or the seminar or the boot camp, you are making a huge mistake because most of the work is done afterwards.

Get your beauty sleep the week before and the week after.  Do not expect to get any sleep while you are there because when you get there, if it is from 8:00 in the morning until 6:00 at night, you plan on working from 7:00 in the morning until midnight or 1:00 a.m.

Of course, you are with like-minded people who are excited.  It is not really work and oftentimes we look at this as all the Friday night outs that we did not go to because we were in our little hovel working on the computer.  So, you get to party.  It is fun.

Step 3:        Go to the freaking thing.  Attend it.  Do not chicken out at the last minute.

Step 4:    The most difficult of the four easy steps is #4 and that is, participate.  Listen to the different speakers.  When they tell you to stand up, stand up.  When you see people in a corner talking about something, go over and introduce yourself and see if you can help them.

If you want to know another secret to having a successful time at these seminars, find out how you can be of service to the people that are there.  Yeah, you have got the world’s greatest gadget or widget website, whatever it is, but people do not care what you know until they know how much you care.

You know, talk to someone and say, “Hey, man.  What’s your biggest problem with your business?  What can I do to help you?” and here is what is going to happen, you are going to find that - Gasp!  You are making new friends?  You are looking forward to going and seeing them at the next one?  You are making new JV partners.

These people that you are meeting are no longer just names in your inbox.  They are people.  They are real individuals and guess what?  You are no longer just a name in their address book.  You are a real person.  You start talking with them.  You tell them what you are doing, what is going up with you.  You tell them what is going on down with them.

All that sort of good stuff and next thing you know instead of doing your little launch with three JV partners, you have got like 100 people that are really excited to support you in your business.  Is that not a nice feeling?

You are also going to get new clients.  If you are service based like I am.  I am a copywriter among other things and one of the areas of my business that I really wanted to grow since I left the Internet Marketing Center was my copywriting.  Boy, oh boy!  If you are in an area that people need helping, then copywriting is certainly that.  I heartily recommend the American Writers and Artists Institute’s copywriting courses.

It is awesome, that is how I got my start, but you are going to find no matter what area, if you got some services or some products that are aimed at the Internet marketing crowd, you will get some new clients.  If you got a niche market, maybe it is in the pet food industry or something like that, go to those events because those people are there because they need help and you can give them the help.

The next thing you are going to get when you go to a seminar is new ideas.  You are going to get tons and tons of new ideas, new ways to do things.  It is just awesome.  I mean I just started rewriting all my business plans as I am listening to the different speakers.

I actually wrote a sales copy while I was listening to some of these speakers because they got me so motivated and so many great new ideas.  Next, you are going to learn faster.  You know, Joel Comm, Stephen Pierce, Mike Filsaime, these guys and all the rest of the people that were at the Internet Marketing Main Event II, I do not want to slight any of you by leaving you off the list, Gary, Jeff, Rich, and the rest of you guys.

They are masters at their field.  They are experts in their area of expertise and you are going to learn a lot faster when you listen to those guys and you see their strategies, see how their mind works.  It is amazing and then you start applying their ideas like Brad Fallon, great information.  Bob Circosta — there was somebody who was not even really in the Internet business.

He was the guy who started the Home Shopping Network and he brought tons of great ideas.  Jay Abraham made his fortune taking ideas from one industry and putting them over into another.  So, to have Bob as a guest was just great because he gave us tons of new ideas.  The next thing you are going to get when you go to one of these seminars is higher levels of belief.  Can you do it?

Can you really make some money on the Internet?  Well, you start meeting people like Keith Wellman who a year ago at the Denver Mega Seminar was struggling and struggling and struggling and now, he is buying a brand new house.  Some of these other young guys that you see, they say, “Well, what are your goals?  My goal is to buy my mom a house.”  Unbelievable!  That causes huge increases in your motivation.

I am way, way more motivated now that I am back than when I went before because I am pumped.  I see the in possibilities.  It is not a pipe dream.  I know I can do it.  I have got the talent.  I have got the work ethic and that is just going to lead to the biggest benefit I think of going to these seminars and that is greater success.  All right?

So, I want to share just a couple of things more specifically that I got out of the last event that I went to.  The first one was a little trick, a little service that Google has, Google Trends.  Just go to Google Trends and google, it will come up, right?

For example, if you do the trend history of Wikipedia versus encyclopedia, you will see that in 2004, they were about the same in popularity.  Beginning in 2005 and going on to 2006, Wikipedia has just blown encyclopedias right out of the water as far as search volume goes.  It is absolutely amazing, the difference.

What is really interesting is when I looked down at the bottom and it talks about the languages and you see that the Germans, the Finnish people, Polish, Swedish, the Dutch, the Italians, Spanish, French and Portuguese, huge users of Wikipedia.

The English are also huge users of Wikipedia.  However, there are also large users of encyclopedias.  So, it is interesting that there is a cultural difference there.  Now, how this affects you and your business I have no idea, but it will be pretty interesting to take two areas of your business, put them into

Google Trends and see what is going on.  I mean if you are in the one that is — like E-mail for example and RSS feeds and if you see that one has taken off and you are just doing the other one, maybe it would be time to take a look at changing that, right?  Joel Comm, the AdSense man, great, great discussion and he said one thing that blew my mind.  He said that, “I get the majority of my AdSense income from one site.”  Now, my good friend, David Watson of Website Content Wizard and Website Article Wizard also makes a lot of money on AdSense and he has got 180 sites.

So, I never thought you could just do it with one site.  I have got like 20 sites.  So, that is why I am not making any money.  I do not have as many as David and I got way too many as far as Joel is concerned, right?  So, great, find out where you are and adjust it.

Another tip that I got was from Bob Circosta, which is W-S-G-A-T, WSGAT.  That is the billion-dollar formula.  That is what took Home Shopping Network to the huge stratosphere that it is at today.

So, what is WSGAT?

Well, I will tell you.  It stands for What’s So Good About That?  As copywriters, we love that type of talk because we are always talking about features and benefits and the hardest thing I have is getting my clients to really look at what are the benefits.  They just like to give me the features, right?

So, WSGAT, What’s So Good About That?  So, my widget does this, “WSGAT, What’s Good About That?  Well, that means this.”  Ah, now we are getting some place, right?

Also, the other thing that was amazing was if you look at infomercials and the shopping channels on TV, they are responsible for $154 billion annually in sales.  So, are you missing out on a potentially lucrative market?  It could be.

Matt Bacak, great stuff.  He talked about the Top 5 ways to get traffic to your website.  Number five was PR web and PR direct, in other words, press releases.  Number four were ads, finding newsletters and websites where you can put ads up.  Number three were the search engines and pay-per-click.  Number two were articles, submitting them to the different article directories and the number one way was to have joint ventures and get them to E-mail out.

He then gave a bonus way, which of course is to have blog.  If any of you have been listening to me or following me for any length of time, you know I think that is a major way to make it to the top.

There you go.  That is it for this time, the four easy steps to tripling your income this year.  Get out of your office, connect with people, decide on some seminar that you are going to go to, book those tickets, go to the thing, participate fully in it.

I have to tell you that at the Internet Marketing Main Event, that could be worth $20,000 to me and the reason that I say that is as a copywriter, I had eight people at the event talked to me about writing their copy, two of them I have actually started and the rest I am going to be calling the next day or two and hopefully closing and then I had two people after the event call me and talked to me about writing copy for them.

So, if that keeps up, all I got to do is go to one of these every couple of months and I will have more business than I will know what to do with as far as the copywriting part of my business goes.  I am very, very excited about that.

The other thing was, of course, as many of you know and if you are listening to this on my podcast you know what is for sure is, I am pushing Podcasting Unleashed, my e-Book.  It is a huge seller.  It is very, very popular and I am coming out with a revised version 2 of it in the next month or so.

I am also working on the Podcasting Marketing Center with my partners, Danny and Heidi, and we are amazed at the number of people that were — it is a hot, hot topic.  People are coming up to us, talking to us about it all the time and as a result of this, we had opportunities to speak at two more events because we were at this one and just think about it for a second.

If you are a good speaker and you are up in front of 500 people and you have got a product around $1500 that you can sell to those people and you can get them all excited about that and get maybe 10 percent of them to the back of the room.  Okay, so 50 x 2000, you have had a good weekend, right?  So, there is some big, big money there.

John Childers was at the Internet Marketing Main Event for 90 minutes and he pulled out a pile of money out of that room based on what I could see watching how many people were running to the back to get his program.

So, these are skills you can learn.  It does not matter what business you are in, what area you are in, if you are excited about it, passionate about it, you can get up there on the stage and talk about it and I will tell you, you will have a lot of fun.

Oooo Scott–You’ve got me all excited now!
I wanted to attend that big marketing seminar a couple weeks ago (I think it’s the one you were describing), but I found out about it at the last minute and missed it.
I had a feeling there would be immeasurable value to hanging out where all these amazing internet marketing gurus were speaking, but now I am utterly convinced.
Thanks so much for this great article.
You’ve convinced me–I’ve gotta get my butt out of the house and connect folks, and I need to encourage the biz owners I work with to do the same thing.
    Thanks again!
