As a woman, mother and president of a corporation everyday is bring Mom to work day…but I don’t mean me! My mother’s voice…sometimes in a little whisper and sometimes in a shout is floating around in my brain and sometimes escapes right out my mouth. I am always surprised when that happens!
We all have tremendous tools to utilize in the workplace that have really remained untapped for the most part…OUR MOTHERS (and sometimes even grandmothers!).
Now I am not saying that Mommy should be calling your boss to ask for your next raise…but tapping into how you got that cookie from her 5 minutes before dinner is ready could teach you something about asking for that raise yourself. We hone our communication, negotiation and leadership tools through our dealings with our mothers and by watching our mothers manage the team we call our family.
Today is my mother’s birthday…and I for one know that I am a better woman, worker and boss because of that little voice inside my head whispering, and yes sometimes shouting, simple truths from mom!
So pay attention and learn something from the generations of amazing women in your life! I know that I have from mine.
